Cloud Computing: Salesforce targets identity management through ForgeRock deal

Software as a Service (SaaS) provider Salesforce.com this week entered the Identity and Access Management (IAM) market, striking a deal with specialist player ForgeRock. Under the deal, ForgeRock announced an OEM agreement with Salesforce.com to deliver Salesforce Identity Connect, enabling enterprises to integrate with existing on-premise identity directories using Salesforce Identity.

ForgeRock is gaining a reputation for redefining IAM through its Open Identity Stack for externally-facing cloud applications. “We are delivering Salesforce Identity Connect to create a bridge between existing on-premise directory solutions and Salesforce,” said Chuck Mortimore, vice president of product management, Salesforce Identity, Salesforce.com…

According to Andy Kellett, principal analyst at Ovum: “Salesforce is a significant new entrant into the Identity and Access Management market because it is looking to cover all aspects of the identity management lifecycle, and although provided as a cloud-based service is not restricting itself to just protecting access to cloud-based applications.”…
